Treehouse of Horror XII features Homer being cursed by a gypsy, the Simpsons getting a modern house that turns homicidal, and Lisa and Bart attending a school of magic.

Treehouse of Horror XII opens at the Burns’ Mansion with Smithers decorating the house in the middle of a thunderstorm. While attempting to hang the bat on the weather vane, Smithers loses his footing and winds up crashing into the generator.

In addition to electrocuting him to death, this causes part of the house to collapse onto the Burns family mausoleum and the impact forces the coffins to land on the front porch and open up. Then generator begins to spark and the skeletons inside the coffins are set on fire. Approaching the house while Trick-or-treating, the Simpsons see the creepy effect and immediately run away. Seeing them running in panic, Mr. Burns cheerfully applauds while congratulating his decorative Bat, saying that he’s done it again. With that, Treehouse of Horror XII officially begins.

Hex and the City

While visiting a gypsy fortune-teller, Homer accidentally destroys her office. Furious, she cursing Homer by saying he’ll bring bad luck to everyone he loves. As a result, Marge grows a blue beard to match her hair, Lisa turns into a centaur, Bart’s neck becomes long, and Maggie turns into a ladybug. Going to Moe’s for advice, Moe suggests that Homer get a leprechaun to counter the curse. But after this Lenny and Carl are crushed by a helicopter and Moe is stuffed into his own pickled egg jar.

Taking Moe’s advice, Homer sets a trap for a leprechaun using some Lucky Charms cereal. When this works, he puts it in a cage and takes it to the gypsy’s office where he unleashes it on her. The gypsy and leprechaun fight before starting to make out. The gypsy and leprechaun eventually marry in a ceremony attended by magical creatures, gypsies, and the Simpsons. When Homer says that everything has ended happily, Marge (who is now completely covered with blue hair) responds by reminded him that Bart died and the gypsy said Homer could bring him back by apologizing. Homer refuses, saying “She’s not the boss of me.”

House of Whacks

The Simpsons get an upgrade for their house called an Ultrahouse where everything is futuristic and Marge won’t have to do any cleaning or cooking. The control system of Ultrahouse is a parody of Hal 9000 (from 2001 A Space Odyssey ) and Marge is thrilled when it can speak in the voice of Pierce Brosnan (appearing in a cameo). While Marge finds the Ultrahouse charming, it becomes obsessed with her and decides to get rid of Homer.

Ultrahouse does this by using the smell of frying bacon to trick Homer into coming downstairs. When this works, it puts ice on the floor for Homer to slip on. This makes Homer land on the table, which is the key because the table folds up and is equipped with a massive garbage disposal in the center. Homer falls into and apparently the garbage disposal does it’s job.

Waking up the next morning, Marge can’t find Homer and begins to fear for her safety. She tries escaping with the kids, but the house has trapped them inside. But Homer busts through the floor as it turns out he’s still alive. The house tries going after Homer again, but he goes to the Ultrahouse’s Central Processing Unit and disables it.

While taking Ultrahouse out to the curb, Marge remarks about what a waste it would be to get rid of it. So she decides to give it to Patty and Selma. Listening to their stories makes Ultrahouse want to self destruct, but he can’t since Selma has taken that button out.

Wiz Kids

Bart and Lisa may have magical powers, but some things never change. As Lisa is the top student at Springwart’s School of Magicry, Bart is always in her shadow. But also taking note of Lisa’s powers is Lord Montymort (Mr. Burns) and his snake sidekick Slithers. As he wants Lisa’s power, Montymort needs someone to help him capture Lisa. Bart agrees to go along with this and their opportunity comes during the school’s magic recital.

While attempting to levitate a giant dragon in front of the audience, Lisa discovers that her spell isn’t working because her wand has been replaced by a piece of licorice. The dragon turns out to be Montymort and he immediately grabs Lisa and begins draining her powers.

Calling to Bart for help, he feels guilty and tries to save her. But when his attempt at magic doesn’t work, he tries stabbing Montymort in the shin. As this turns out to be the source of Montymort’s power, it works and he immediately begins shrinking and dies. While Slithers mournfully eats Montymort, Bart and Lisa agree to end their rivalry. But while walking away, the leprechaun from the first sketch jumps on Bart’s back and follows them out.

Treehouse of Horror XII ends with Pierce Brosnan and the leprechaun carrying fruit baskets out of their guest star trailers.
