This week on The Good Place, we get our first mission for the Soul Squad. Meanwhile, Chidi has to do something that is very difficult for him.

Some time has passed between this week’s episode of The Good Place and last. Enough time for poor Chidi to get fired from his job over the Peeps Chili Incident. But he immediately looks at the bright side: He now has time to spend helping out the Soul Squad as they save souls.

However, Chidi also thinks of a down side: He needs to break up with Simone. As he’s incapable of lying, he’s worried he’ll slip up and tell her everything he knows about the afterlife, and doom her to The Bad Place. Janet offers to make a VR simulator to help Chidi practice breaking up with Simone. Janet is also making her own bings when she has helpful information. This is probably the best thing ever.

Meanwhile, Jason, Tahani and Michael find themselves in Jacksonville, Florida. They’re there to save their first soul: Jason’s dad. Also known as Donkey Doug, because of course he is. This is Jason we’re talking about. As they wait for a cab, Jason regales Tahani and Michael with tales about his dad, like the one time he got kicked out of Disney World because he bit Buzz Lightyear.

Jason’s dad is all about get-rich-quick schemes, which is why they’re going to lead him toward finishing his electrician license. And after a ride in a monster truck type cab, they arrive at Jason’s dad’s apartment, and Jason starts to make so much sense. His dad, Donkey Doug, is just like him.

Back in Australia, Chidi jumps into the VR simulator for the first time. As expected, the break up does not go well.

In Florida, Pillboi shows up at Donkey Doug’s apartment, and is surprised Jason is alive. Before Michael, Tahani, and Jason can pitch the electrician idea to Donkey Doug, Pillboi, and Donkey Doug pitch them an idea: Double Trouble. It’s an energy drink combined with a body spray. When asked if you drink it or wear it, they answer, “you both it.” (heh)

Chidi goes back into the simulator armed with a tool to be able to reset the scenario with a snap in order to run through it over and over again. And we get a hilarious montage of Chidi trying, and failing, at breaking up with Simone. He even tried proposing to her, which predictably backfired. Then Eleanor jumps in to give the break up a try, and ends up almost making out with Simone. She’s just that hard to break up with.

After Jason tries to convince Donkey Doug to abandon the “dope” idea of Double Trouble and be an electrician, Donkey Doug is upset because Jason doesn’t believe in him. So, Jason decides to try to support the Double Trouble venture. That is, until Pillboi and Donkey Doug reveal they need to rob three factories in order to make it work. Then, Jason, Michael, and Tahani decide Donkey Doug is a lost cause, and decide to help Pillboi.

Chidi goes to break up with Simone. But since they keep getting interrupted by the wait staff, Chidi ends up yelling “Ya Dumped!” at Simone, and she storms off, upset. Pillboi is terrible at his job at the old folks home, and is surprisingly easily convinced by Tahani to not go meet Donkey Doug and rob the factories.

Chidi, upset with the way he broke up with Simone, is convinced by Eleanor to “go be a person” and talk to Simone. Breakups are bad, but you can still try to salvage a friendship.

Jason shows up at the factory to help his dad do the robbery, as long as he promises to leave Pillboi alone from now on. But before they could rob the factory, the police show up. Donkey Doug tells Jason he’ll distract the cops so Jason can escape through the back. Jason is touched by this action, and Donkey Doug renames himself “Donkey Dad” before deciding it’s silly and going back to Donkey Doug.

Chidi and Simone talk, and they have a pretty amicable break up. Jason has told Pillboi that he, Michael and Tahani are secret astronaut spies and they need him to continue their mission by doing a good job at the nursing home, commit no more crimes, and stay out of trouble. One soul (probably) saved by the Soul Squad!

Two days later, we find the soul squad in Budapest, Hungary, where Tahani is hoping to reconcile with her sister. However, Janet drops the bomb that Eleanor’s mom isn’t really dead, she faked her death. So now Eleanor wants to fly home and find her mother so she can “murder her.”

Tahani’s Name Drops: Sting and Elon Musk, who is a “weird creep.”
