8. Season 1 – “The One Where The Underdog Gets Away”

Unfortunately, the first-ever Friends Thanksgiving episode rates pretty low on this list. That’s not because it was a poor episode, but because they got much better in future seasons…except the two episodes we just discussed, but we don’t talk about them.

But I digress. “The One Where the Underdog Gets Away” is about how each member of the gang ends up with the others for Thanksgiving dinner even though none of them were planning on it.

Rachel is still getting used to her new lifestyle, something that prevents her from being able to buy a plane ticket to visit her parents. Joey’s new gig ends up with him as the new face of VD. This results in his family believing he’s actually sick and banning him from attending Thanksgiving dinner with them.

This is the first time we learn what Chandler thinks of Thanksgiving. He boycotts anything involving the holiday, which sets up gags and plot points in future episodes, Thanksgiving-themed and otherwise.

Eventually, with all their plans imploding, everyone convenes at Monica’s apartment for Thanksgiving dinner, the first of many to come.
