3. Season 9 – “The One With Rachel’s Other Sister”

Time to give out the medals. The bronze goes to the Season 9 Thanksgiving special, “The One With Rachel’s Other Sister.” And really, this medal should properly go to Christina Applegate, who plays Rachel’s sister Amy.

A lot of people don’t know this, but Christina Applegate won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress for her appearance in this episode, and deservedly so. She freshens up the proceedings, running through the characters and insulting them one by one.

As Rachel tries to keep the fires that Amy starts under control, Joey realizes that he was supposed to be attending the Thanksgiving parade for Days of our Lives. He then tries to come up with an excuse for his absence, but Joey being Joey, he’s unable to think of much.

Chandler gets upset that he isn’t trusted enough by Ross and Rachel to look after Baby Emma if they were both to die, but feel that they can trust Monica. Some wedding china comes into the mix, and the whole day ends up turning into one big disaster.

It’s an overly theatrical episode, but one that has you gripped with twists and turns from the very start. As soon as one fire is put out, another immediately blazes to life. When the episode is over, you’re left there wanting more.

Rachel does end up making amends with Amy in the typical Green family way: by letting Amy have access to her Ralph Lauren discount.
