15. Dynasty

Episode: Season 1, Episode 7, “A Taste of Your Own Medicine”

What’s on the menu: Which food group does drama belong to again? Well, if you’re allergic to delicious soap opera melodrama, you’ll have to warn Anders before sitting down to feast with the Carrington family. In the first season of the Dynasty reboot, Thanksgiving turns into a hostage situation, and the turkey winds up an innocent victim. Blackmail, extortion, and gun-wielding. Truthfully, it’s just another day at Carrington manor, but it just happens to be a holiday.

In “A Taste of Your Own Medicine,” the Carringtons’ various scandals come back to bite them big time just before sitting down to carve the turkey. Claudia, the pregnant wife of supposed Carrington Atlantic victim Michael, holds the family at gunpoint in the name of revenge. Unfortunately, no one can talk her out of pulling the trigger, until Fallon struts back into the manor despite being banished by Blake. She talks Claudia down, and they at least try to eat around the bullet in the bird.

light. Must Read. Elizabeth Gillies' viral meme made me watch Dynasty, and I regret nothing

Why we’re thankful for it: We should all tack Dynasty onto the list of things we’re thankful for this year. It’s single-handedly one of the best shows on TV, not because it’s giving the prestige Emmy-winners a run for their money, but because it’s pure, soapy fun. Elizabeth Gillies’ knocks her rendition of Fallon Carrington out of the park, and she’s never been better than in the Thanksgiving episode. What makes this one a winner is that the narrative isn’t center around the holiday. Rather, it’s all but a coincidence that it’s Thanksgiving on the day the Carringtons are held at gunpoint.
