The surprise marriage of Selma Bouvier and Sideshow Bob in Black Widower is definitely a classic episode of The Simpsons.

Plot: The Simpsons find out that Selma Bouvier’s new boyfriend is Sideshow Bob (Kelsey Grammer), who has just been released from prison. Despite Bart being suspicious of his intentions, Bob and Selma get married and go away on a Honeymoon.

Black Widower is a great episode of The Simpsons because it’s the second episode to feature Sideshow Bob after his debut on Krusty Gets Busted. Because of this, it really delves into his personality and serves as the debut of the Sideshow Bob we all know. The episode also gave him an entertaining story to shine in because seeing him marry arguably the most different person from himself is interesting to say the least.

It’s also hilarious to see that Selma considers Bob’s putting down of MacGyver more of a deal breaker than his time in prison. The funniest part is that we can all relate to Bob’s attitude when we’re forced to view something we don’t like at all just because someone else wants to watch it. But the fact that Bob hates MacGyver is no surprise at all considering his love of Gilbert and Sullivan.

On another note, this episode gives Bart another rare moment to shine as the most perceptive one of the family. While he certainly isn’t as openly intelligent as Lisa, Bart does have his clever moments and possesses a considerable bit of street smarts. Much like in Sideshow Bob’s debut episode, Bart is the only one who seems aware that Sideshow Bob is up to something.

Black Widower’s plot twist and genuinely interesting storyline also make it an entertaining episode to watch. Like Bart, you know something is up and want to find out exactly what it is.
