Just when you thought the year of reboots, remakes, and revivals was over, 2019 continues the trend with new titles you never thought would make a comeback. If the title What Men Want sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a gender-swapped re-imagining of the 2000 Nancy Meyers film What Women Want. Right in time for Valentine’s Day, the romantic comedy comes to theaters to kick off a year of superhero sequels and franchise finishers.

Taraji P. Henson stars as Ali Davis, a sports agent who has been passed up for a promotion in favor of a male colleague. In response, Ali wonders what else she must do in order to continue her successful career in a world overrun by men. However, when Ali gains the ability to hear the internal thoughts of men, she uses her new insider knowledge to get a leg up on her competition. Of course, her minding reading powers will also put a fork in the road for her friendships and a potential new romance.

What Men Want comes from director Adam Shankman, who helmed such popular films as The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember, Bringing Down the House, The Pacifier, Hairspray, and Rock of Ages. The film features an impressive cast of recognizable talent and stands to follow in the footsteps in the original. Back in 2000, Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt brought in $374 million against a $70 million budget. If anyone could take a crack at topping that, it’s Taraji P. Henson.
