When the curtains close on another year in television, the floodgates open for the flurry of Top 10 lists. From the Top 10 best shows of the year to the Top 10 worst, television critics and fans don’t leave a single stone unturned. We’re quick to single out our favorites and even quicker to let the world know which stars are deserving of greater critical acclaim. Being so, the Hidden Remote team caps off the year by celebrating the 15 best TV actresses of 2018.
In 2018, women continued to break the mold with complex characters. There were dozens of dazzling newcomers in every corner of the small screen and its streaming services, like Mj Rodriguez in FX’s groundbreaking hit drama Pose and Victoria Pedretti in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House. Notably, Jennifer Garner returned to TV in HBO’s limited comedy series Camping, and Amy Adams also brought her talents to HBO in the summer’s thrilling obsession Sharp Objects.
But as much as the year belonged to fresh faces staking new ground, a handful of reliable standbys and award winners maintained their shine. Elisabeth Moss, Thandie Newton, and Mandy Moore once again made us feel a disarming amount of emotions in The Handmaid’s Tale, Westworld, and This Is Us. Meanwhile Elizabeth Gillies and D’Arcy Carden delivered necessary levity in Dynasty and The Good Place, and that’s just scratching the surface.
