After a year of anticipation, Warner Bros. has confirmed they have finished filming their latest adventure into the DCEU Joker. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joker.

The solo Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix has concluded filming. The origin story will introduce fans to the popular villain, as he starts out as a struggling comedian known as Arthur Fleck. The storyline steps outside the regular DC Extended Universe storyline, creating a new banner for DC Films, expected to be known as DC Dark or DC Black.

At first, fans were questionable about an origin film for Batman’s nemesis when it was first announced, but Warner Bros and DC continued on and began production in September. DC fans began accepting the idea of the film when it became clearer what the film would become. DC even released character portraits including an official image of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker.

Joker is being directed by Todd Phillips, who announced they finished filming but did say that ” they’re far from the end as now the long post-production process will begin.” This film is a serious gamble for Warner Bros., as the film is set as a stand-alone film and not meant to lead to a franchise.

Based on the storyline, this Joker in no way connects to Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe. If Phillip’s Joker draws in the crowds, it could cause Warner Bros. to consider creating more stand-alone films for a variety of villains and heroes.

I believe stand-alone films would do great, the studio is spending 2-3 hours to tell a full story, and not attempting to create cliffhangers causing fans to wait another few years for the next chapter. I could see a great line up of stand-alone films for characters such as Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Jim Gordon (I know not a superhero), even Robin.

Joker  is scheduled to be released October 6, 2019. Are you excited for Joker or do you think Warner Bros. should stop trying to compete with Marvel and end their superhero attempts?
