5. Gotham

When it premiered: Sept. 22, 2014

Brief synopsis: Gotham is a corrupt city full of some of comics’ most notorious villains. The series starts with Detective Jim Gordon, an up-and-coming detective who has to learn to navigate the corrupt city. While rising the career ladder, he also forms a bond with the newly orphaned Bruce Wayne, who has a destiny ahead of himself.

Why it’s so great: When Gotham started, we got a superhero show with a twist. It was a darker take on the world of Batman and set apart from the fast-growing Arrowverse at the time. A prequel series, we got to see more about Detective Jim Gordon instead of the young Bruce Wayne.

Over the years, we’ve had the chance to see the relationship between Gordon and Bruce Wayne develop. We’ve watched the takes on the various villains that have given Gotham its dangerous name. This is a series for those who adore prequel shows without a change to the basic mythology.

While the fourth season started losing viewers and made it a bubble show, FOX has offered a final season to conclude the tale. It’s finally time to see it connect to the Batman story we know and love.
