2. Seeing Marcus’ life

Deadly Class is taking a no holding back approach when it comes to some of the awful situations our characters will get themselves into. That is made extremely clear in the opening moments. After initially finding out that Marcus is in the school, we get the story of how he learned about Kings Dominion and why he chooses to attend.

It all starts with seeing him at his lowest. Homeless and lonely, Marcus is just attempting to survive. Getting to see him at his lowest is important for the rest of the show. You can tell that because of what he’s already been through, the hazing and bullying isn’t going to get to him as much as it does everyone else. In fact, I can tell you there’s a moment in Episode 3 that links back to what I’m writing here.

This isn’t just about how Marcus is living but how he’s got to this point. Deadly Class gives us enough of his backstory to feel for him but also be wary of him. Just how much went on in that torturous boys’ home and what really happened to the kids?

Marcus’ backstory could be a series in itself but I love that we didn’t get too much of it in this one episode. I’m excited to learn more as we go along, and just what Ronald Regan had to do with his parents’ deaths.
