Melanie Liburd talks John Stamos and joining This Is Us cast
You remember that ridiculously romantic moment on This Is Us between Kevin, Zoe, and John Stamos? So does Melanie Liburd.
It already feels like a classic moment in television history that we just keep coming back to. You remember that romantic John Stamos line on This Is Us? Yeah, that was classic. Viewers just can’t get enough, and neither can interviewers.
Melanie Liburd, who plays the Zoe half of Zevin, was stopped on the silver carpet at last night’s SAG awards to say a few words about the weather and John Stamos. Liburd, who is from the UK, didn’t know right off who Stamos was when she read the script or just why he was being referenced. Apparently Full House wasn’t a huge part of British culture growing up. But once she was reminded of who he is, she absolutely loved the storyline and thought the namedrop was hilarious.
“Zoe’s got her key, she got the key back. She’s very happy,” laughed Liburd.
It’s always nice to be in the loop, which must be a difficult thing for a “newbie” coming into an established, close-knit cast. It just wouldn’t do to come into the situation and also not know who John Stamos is. Joking aside, Liburd goes on to talk about how she was a fan of the show from the beginning, but how intimidating it was joining a cast who was already like a family. But she said the cast couldn’t have been more warm and welcoming.
“Everyone was so lovely. Everyone,” gushed Liburd. “Justin, Sterling, said ‘anything you need.’ Just so sweet, so so kind.”
Liburd shared the glory with This Is Us when the cast won the SAG award for Outstanding Performance of an Ensemble in a Drama Series the second year in a row. The cast couldn’t have been more excited, and their joy, just like their tears, was infectious. Just look at Sterling back there!
