2. “The Hurt Soccer”

The next-to-last episode on the list is another sports-related one. This time, the episode is from Season 8 and is entitled “The Hurt Soccer.” The episode follows Louise as she shows up for her first and the final soccer game of the season while Gene and Linda host a piano bar at the restaurant.

What’s important is Louise’s plot as it’s a huge moment of character development for her. Originally, she wanted to give up and go home but eventually, she changes her tune after finding out the team has lost every single game. No spoilers for the episode, but it plays out in a predictable yet satisfying way for Louise and the rest of the team.

What makes this episode so special is a small cameo. Before Bob’s Burgers, Loren Bouchard worked on the show Home Movies. In Home Movies, the main character Brendon plays soccer as do his two friends: Jason and Melissa. In “The Hurt Soccer,” there’s a shot of Brendon and Melissa as a nod to his former show.

If you’re a fan of Louise, it’s a great Louise episode. “The Hurt Soccer” is that perfect blend of humor and heart that Bob’s does so well. As far as sports episodes go for Bob’s Burgers, this is one of the sportiest.
