10 – Large digital footprint with hashtags and signatures

Just a few hours after learning Shadowhunters Season 3B was pushed back to Spring 2019 and that the series would conclude with an additional two-hour event, hashtags and petitions started trending and got the attention of people around the world. The most popular hashtag by far has been the classic #SaveShadowhunters, which got its own graphic art, subscription list and website, complete with a fan-organized action plan for how to be involved with helping find the show a new home.

Fans and Shadowhunters update accounts have compiled strategies and information about how to participate in the fight. The website links to several organized Google docs with contacts, links, comment scripts and email templates for fans to use who are interested in contacting networks directly, along with a separate guide for Twitter strategy. In seven months, the #SaveShadowhunters hashtag has been used close to 20 million times, and with the new season starting this week, the numbers will likely continue to climb throughout the spring.

In addition to creating a digital stamp with hashtags, fans have also started a Change.org petition that quickly rose to over 100,000 signatures. At the start of Season 3B it has over 166,100 signatures, with names still being added each day. Many of the signatures are also accompanied by heart-felt testimonials talking about the impact and meaning of the series.
