Chrissy Metz is going to get a chance to work those comedy chops as she has signed on to guest star in the outrageous NBC comedy Superstore. The series revolves around a quirky group of retail associates that together tackle the daily challenges of working at the megastore called Cloud 9. The series is extremely relatable, both for those in retail and in the service industry, including all the interesting, creative, and inappropriate ways to fill the frequent downtime. Presumably, this is what brings Metz’s character into the Cloud 9 world, as the no-nonesense Human Resources representative is sent in to investigate a series of inappropriate tweets.

Metz gets plenty of chances as Kate on This Is Us to show her dramatic range, but her comedic work has been brief and subtle. She is a master of “the look,” the one that says every comeback and sarcastic remark that Kate is too nice and too smart to actually say. She can easily reign in her brothers’ behavior with that look, whether it’s Kevin’s rudeness or Randall’s untimely attempts at humor. It sounds like her role on Superstore is meant to be a little bit more deadpan, which I think suits her style of comedic acting perfectly.

The second half of Superstore’s fourth season will premiere on Thursday, March 7 after a three month hiatus, with Metz’s episode set to air in May. With season three of This Is Us wrapping up in April, it will be a pleasant distraction to see a member of the Big Three featuring on another show. Perhaps we’ll see more of the Pearsons popping up on other shows during the hiatus too. After all, its important to stay busy to make the wait for season four seem as short as possible.
