The Resident begins with Austin paying a visit to his old mentor Abe, to check and see how he’s holding up in the aftermath of QuoVadis folding. The answer? Not well.
Strewn across the floor, barely breathing, Abe is suffering from an abdominal gunshot wound. Austin gets Abe to Chastain as soon as possible and the doctors do their best to save him. Here are the top five moments from the episode.

5. A case of young love.
A giggly young couple shows up in Nic’s clinic because of a common cold. Scratch that, they’ve got mono, even though they swear they aren’t a couple – just best friends. Scratch that. One has mono, the guy, Evan, has something far more serious and his best friend is secretly in love with him.
All it takes is Evan having a brush with death to make her realize she can’t wait any longer to tell him how she really feels. But will she ever get the chance? Evan’s condition decreases rapidly, he’s practically circling the drain before the doctors realize he needs the ECMO machine to prevent his lungs from failing.
