Supernatural Season 14, Episode 18 airs Thursday. With two episodes left of the season after this, tensions are running high. And not everyone may be on speaking terms by the end of the episode. It’s time to delve into the promo and synopsis for the episode.

Titled “Absence,” it leaves us with some concern. What exactly is the “absence” referring to? Jack’s soul? Mary Winchester? The relationship between Dean and Castiel?

Before we delve any further, there are spoilers based on the promo and synopsis in this post. I’m also going to assume you’re all caught up because, otherwise, why are you looking for the promo for the next episode? They always contain spoilers.

5. Things are not alright

Oh dear, things aren’t great between our main guys. Castiel tells Dean and Sam about what he fears about Jack in the episode. Naturally, Dean is angry that a secret has been kept from it.

It’s typical Dean behavior. When he gets scared, his anger comes through. Brain and mouth do not connect. However, I’m kind of on his side in this one — Castiel should have said something sooner!

Things are not going to be alright between the two. The question is which side is Sam on?

4. Rowena returns

As I noted in the images for Supernatural Season 14, Episode 18, Rowena returns in this week’s episode. It looks like things aren’t alright with her, either. She’s going to be thrown against something. Will it be by Jack?

We know that Sam will be the one to kill her. It’s never been clear why Sam would do it, but could it be to help put her out of her misery after a soulless Jack attacks her?

3. Nick/Lucifer is inside Jack’s head

If you thought the series was done with Mark Pellegrino, you’ll be wrong. The man is back but this time, it looks like it’s a hallucination. From the look of the promo, Jack is seeing Lucifer as the literal devil on his shoulder.

What does this mean for our favorite nephilim? And will he see an angel on the other side? Could we get Gabriel back or is Castiel going to be there to help at the last minute? After all, we need to be balanced, right?

2. The Winchesters are scared

There’s no denying that the Winchester brothers are scared. They’re in deeper than ever before with more powerful beings than they’ve ever faced. A nephilim without a soul is one dangerous being.

It’s not surprising that they’re struggling with their feelings. it sounds like Sam wants to give Castiel the benefit of the doubt. He knows what it’s like to feel that need to hold onto a secret and he knows what it’s like to bear the brunt of Dean’s anger. However, Dean has his guards up and he’s not afraid to destroy a 10-year-old friendship.

1. We’ve no idea what happened to Mary

Thought you’d get a glimpse of Mary Winchester? Want answers after the end of the last episode? We all do, but I doubt they’re happening in this episode. If they are, they’re only in passing.

Mary Winchester is nowhere to be seen in the upcoming episode. You’ll need to deal with questions for a little while longer. Is she one we’ll say goodbye to during the season?
