The Big Bang Theory: The 5 best moments from The Inspiration Deprivation
By John Dotson
#4 Howard gets caught
The latter half of the episode mostly focuses on the men trying to understand how to be husbands. The first one being Howard who gets caught by Bernadette with all of his sneaking around and buying a scooter behind her back. When asked why he would want to do such a thing, he explains then he doesn’t have the freedom he once had before they were married. She humorously responds saying that he lived with his mom and she gave him curfews.
Howard attempts denying that she is right but eventually caves. Shortly after, Howard sells the scooter to Bert. This results in Bert getting into a wreck with the vehicle. However, as Howard tells Bernadette he hooked up with the emergency room nurse.
#5 Sheldon gets another lesson about being a husband
Who knew that sensory deprivation tanks could be so stressful? When they go into their separate tanks they have two very different experiences. Amy sees the faces of all the women she has let down and gets more stressed out, while Sheldon thoroughly enjoys forgetting the outside world. When the tank is open, Amy is panicking, and in true Sheldon fashion, he has no idea how to comfort her. First, he researches the issue on the internet, then he goes for a “relaxing walk” without Amy in an effort to get some peace.
When he returns, Amy is still panicking so he goes to Penny and Leonard for advice. When Penny points out that perhaps he doesn’t know how to handle Amy’s emotions because she is always the one helping him balance his own, Sheldon quickly decides the best way to help Amy is to have a meltdown so she can find comfort in playing her standard role. When that so obviously fails, Sheldon decides to hold her as a last resort.
Imagine his surprise when holding her and singing Soft Kitty calms her down. She then decides to go ahead and confront the dean with her newfound confidence. The episode ends with both women sitting down to talk with some liquid courage as company.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the episode was a decent character moment for Sheldon and his growth as a husband. There was not much plot movement or indication of where the show intends to end. But still, as a standalone episode, the bits and clever character tropes land solidly. Still, with the show taking a lot of time off, one has to figure that eventually, we’re going to see what note the show intends to end on.
