Wondering if there’s a new episode of Big Little Lies Season 2? Here’s your update on the Monterey Five and their chances of making a comeback.

If you weren’t keeping up with the second season of Big Little Lies or if you were unsure of the official episode count, you might be questioning whether tonight will bring a new installment of the Monterey mystery. Unfortunately, after last week’s season finale, which could very — very — likely be the series finale, there’s no more lies left to tell.

There will not be a new episode of Big Little Lies on HBO tonight, Sunday, July 28. Instead, the film Widows will be shown in its timeslot, and a new episode of Zendaya’s hit series Euphoria, which has been renewed for a second season, will air the first of its final two episodes in its regular post-BLL timeslot. With the Monterey Five gone, it’s the perfect time to get into the controversial teen drama.

In Season 2 of Big Little Lies, the season that wasn’t supposed to exist in the first place, the Monterey Five, as they become known in the wake of scandal, handle the aftershocks of seemingly getting away with their lie. The pressure of guilt yanks at each of their lives, thread by thread, until they ultimately unravel.

The second season saw the addition of Meryl Streep as Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Celeste’s (Nicole Kidman) late husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgård). Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Adam Scott, and James Tupper reprise their roles, as do many supporting players and the young cast of children.

While some fans might have been left asking questions and wanting more after that season finale, it’s been said that the likelihood of the stars aligning again to get this cast together is nearly nonexistent. Not to mention, Liane Moriarty, who wrote the book upon which the first season was based, has said that she doesn’t plan on extending the narrative again to serve a third season.

However, Moriarty does have some thoughts about a potential spinoff, specifically one that would follow the children a few years into the future in high school. Hey, if HBO can make a teen drama work with Euphoria, it can surely make a Big Little Lies high school drama work. But that’s a far off idea Moriarty says she might save for a book. And we all know Renata deserves the spinoff.

Still, there are no new episodes of Big Little Lies coming down the pipeline. All of the episodes have aired and can be binge-watched and re-watched to the heart’s content of every fan on all of HBO’s various streaming destinations (soon including HBO Max). This time, “goodbye” might not be the biggest little lie our favorite Monterey mothers told.

Do you wish Big Little Lies would return for Season 3? What did you think of the Season 2 finale? Were you satisfied with where it left off, or did it leave you wanting even more lies? Sound off in the comments with your thoughts, and don’t forget: the Monterey Five have left the building.

Big Little Lies is available to stream on HBO Go and HBO NOW.
