4. Strong, independent, and smart women

With Lawless as the main character, you knew that this show was going to be positively female. Alexa Crowe is strong and independent. She’s smart and forward-thinking. But she isn’t alone.

One of my favorite characters is Madison, a protegee to Alexa. Madison is funny, smart, and likable. She and Alexa work perfectly together, although Alexa probably doesn’t want to admit it. When one can’t figure something out, the other one can or they bounce ideas between each other to get to the bottom of the case.

Neither wants to take the credit from one another. Alexa offers praise when it’s due, making it the perfect teacher-student relationship.

3. Intriguing cases of the week

The cases are wrapped up at the end of each episode. You’re taking on a mystery with each individual episode, and one of the strong elements is knowing that you’ll get an answer at the very end.

Naturally, there are some red herrings thrown in along the way. You’ll suspect certain characters only to find out that they’re innocent. Or you’ll think guilty characters are innocent. Don’t expect to get all the answers laid out for you. Like Alexa and Madison, you have to figure things out along the way.
