Riverdale interview: Lili Reinhart promises Betty will play key role in bringing down The Farm, finding Alice
By Cody Schultz
When Riverdale returns, fans can expect Lili Reinhart’s Betty Cooper to be at the heart of the hunt for Alice and the takedown of The Farm!
As the dust settled in the Season 3 finale of Riverdale, the lives of our favorite residents were once again turned upside down. This sentiment rang particularly true for Lili Reinhart’s Betty Cooper, who was put through quite the ringer as Season 3 closed.
Her murderous father, re-entered the picture only to be killed right before Betty’s eye at the hand of Penelope Blossom. She then discovered her mom — who disappeared into the night with the rest of The Farmies — was not exactly drinking The Farm’s Kool-Aid but rather was an FBI Informant – a reveal made to her by her thought to be dead half-brother, Charles.
After the events of the finale, Season 4 will find Betty working to process all that has happened in her life – including how to grieve her father after all the horrible things he did prior to his death.
"“Betty is clearly struggling with the fact that her father is gone and the fact that she can’t grieve him because she feels that would make her a bad person. How could she grieve someone who was such a monster?” actress Lili Reinhart previewed of where Betty’s head space is as Season 4 of Riverdale kicks off. “She’s struggling with that place of not being able to grieve her own father which is sad because she had so many wonderful moments with him as a dad. Jughead is really there for her in this moment of doubt. It’s really sweet to see him be there for her.”"
Beyond struggling to process the death of her father, Betty will be spending plenty of time working alongside Charles at the FBI as the Cooper siblings work to bring their mom home safely.
"“She’s also working with Charles at the FBI and doing as much as she can as a high school student can at the FBI. Betty has obviously solved more crimes than the sheriffs in the town; she solves every crime,” Reinhart teased of the role Betty will play in the hunt to bring Alice home safely.“She’s using her resources at high school to help figure out where Alice is. Her main priority is figuring out where her mom is and she has to trust that Alice can take care of herself,” Reinhart continued. “Although she feels a bit betrayed by her because of the fact that she kept his big secret, but she was doing it to protect Betty which is something Betty can understand. I think Betty just misses her mom.”"
In addition to being at the heart of the search for Alice, Betty will be at the heart of the takedown of The Farm. As teased during the Riverdale Comic-Con press room, Episode 3 promises to bring an end to The Farm storyline and the Cooper women will be at the forefront of the action-pack showdown.
"“Betty and Alice are right at the heart of it and it’s super intense,” Reinhart teased in discussing what promises to be an epic conclusion to The Farm storyline… at least for the time being. “It doesn’t wrap up everything; I think there are still loose ends to be tied up and more things to be discovered. It’s a satisfying way to tie things up.”"
