After proving the pen can be just as mighty as the cape in Season 4, Supergirl will continue to explore Kara’s journalistic side come Season 5.

From the moment Kara Danvers first soared into the Arrowverse, she’s been breaking boundaries and serving as inspiration for viewers of all ages; however, it wasn’t until Season 4 of Supergirl that Kara fully realized just how big an impact she can have as Kara Danvers, reporter extraordinaire.

With Supergirl’s image in question, Kara leaned into her journalistic side to bring the truth to light with an exposé which exposed Lex Luthor’s true intentions. It was a direction fans has been hoping the writers would lean heavier into and Season 4 did a beautiful job in balancing Kara’s life as a journalist at CatCo and heroics as National City’s Girl of Steel. Fortunately, it’s a storyline which will continue in Season 5 as Supergirl continues to lean into Kara’s journalistic side!

"“When we start the season, Kara is fresh from her major exposé about Lex Luthor being published,” actress Melissa Benoist previewed of where Kara begins the new season. “She’s always hungry to get to the bottom and find the truth, but I think more than ever the pen to her is sometimes mightier than the cape. So I think we’d be silly not to keep exploring that.”"

Delving deeper into Kara’s journalistic side also gives the show’s creative team the chance to shine a light on what it takes to be a true hero, regardless of whether you have superhuman abilities. While there is no denying Supergirl is among the mightiest heroes around, shining a spotlight on Kara’s life as a journalist fighting to bring the truth to light is just as heroic as leaping tall buildings.

"“I think Kara’s a hero [as well]. If you just see her flying, it’s a little bit more conceptually inspiring for audiences versus inspiring in a sense of you too can be a hero. I think you don’t need superpowers to be heroic, it’s about speaking truth to power,” Supergirl executive producer Sarah Schechter added. “It’s about taking care of people and you don’t need superpowers to do that. I think Kara’s life, in addition to Supergirl’s life, is really important to explore for that reason.”"
