10. Good Trouble

Starting off the list with a Freeform spin-off that maybe deserves a little more attention than it gets: Good Trouble.

Good Trouble follows Callie and Mariana of The Fosters as they move to Los Angeles and live in communal living apartments above The Palace Theatre. Not only does the spin-off series continue the stories of Callie and Mariana’s siblings and moms from the original show, but it also showcases many new characters, several of which are not straight!

Alice Kwan is the manager of The Coterie, Callie and Mariana’s living community. She is also a lesbian hung up on her ex and trying to find herself after coming out to her family. Gael Martinez is a bisexual artist with a thing for Callie. His sister Jazmin Martinez is a recurring character as well who explores her identity as an ex-military trans woman ostracized by her family.

The show has some strange subplots and writing choices such as Mariana’s credit card debt that just get mentioned twice and then never explored, which is why it’s only #10 on the list. Still, dubious writing choices aside, the cast is incredible and the show explores a lot of important topics.

If you liked The Fosters, but wanted a show with less teen drama and more gay people of color and social justice, this is the show for you!
