2. Season 1: “Human Flesh”

This might be the point where people want to fight with where I ranked the premieres but just hear me out. Coming in at #2 on the list is “Human Flesh,” which is the first episode of Bob’s Burgers ever. While it’s by no means the best episode of the show, it was going to be high on the list regardless. Every show has to start somewhere and this is where Bob’s Burgers started whether we all started watching this episode or picked it up later.

“Human Flesh” features Bob’s Burgers reopening on Labor Day for the 3rd time after some accidents. Everything is going great until Hugo, the health inspector comes and accuses Bob of putting human flesh in his burger. Things don’t get any better for Bob as he realizes that he forgot his and Linda’s anniversary. The episode is basically Bob’s nightmare but somehow, it all works out in the end and thus, the first season of Bob’s Burgers began.

To say that “Human Flesh” has its problems would be an understatement. A lot of the jokes featured are pretty unsavory, offensive or don’t fit into the show’s humor now. Other than the humor, everything else is pretty much the same including the characters, the Burger of the Day jokes and the design. However, the jokes are probably most of the reason why people decided not to give the Belchers a chance.

Either way, “Human Flesh” was the start of Bob’s Burgers and it deserves to be celebrated. As Bob pointed out in the episode, “New Baconings” is great and that’s exactly what “Human Flesh” was. It was the beginning of the series for Loren Bouchard and 9 seasons later, it’s still going strong. As important as “Human Flesh” is to Bob’s Burgers, one episode did beat it for the top spot.
