Bob’s Burgers: Ranking the premieres including The Ring (But Not Scary)
7. Season 9: “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now for Now”
Moving closer to the halfway point, it’s time to talk about the episode coming in at #7 on my list and that’s season 9’s “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now for Now.” A Tina-centric episode through and through, it’s no surprise that the series chose this one to open up the season and serve as the show’s 150th episode. Following the loss of Boyz 4 Now member Boo Boo, the band holds an open audition which leads to Tina dressing up as a boy so that she can get closer to her crush.
Where the episode really shines is the musical dream sequences that Tina imagines herself and the boys in. Additionally, the episode does a great job of showcasing what it means to be a fangirl and watching the band you love fall apart before your eyes. As great as some of the elements in the episode are, “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now for Now” lacks in terms of plot as the episode is basically just one long dream sequence for Tina without much involvement from the rest of the family.
While the episode ends with Boo Boo coming back to the band, it sort of defeats the entire purpose of the episode but that’s the price of being a boy band fangirl. As a Bob’s Burgers fan though, it was a good albeit not a great episode to start season 9 with.
