Chicago Fire returns off its One Chicago crossover to bring a case that touches on PD territory. Here’s a look at Chicago Fire Season 8, Episode 5.

After the three-hour One Chicago crossover, it’s time for Chicago Fire to enter PD territory again. In Chicago Fire Season 8, Episode 5, titled “Buckle Up,” Firehouse 51 will deal with a car accident that looks eerily familiar.

In fact, there’s going to be another accident in the same episode that looks similar. It won’t take long for Severide and co. to figure out what’s really going on. The question is whether it’s safe for them to pursue the situation or if this is something for PD to pick up later. It’s not uncommon for mini crossovers to happen, but so soon after the three-hour major event?

The episode isn’t only going to focus on the car accidents. Cruz is dealing with heartbreak. During the crossover event, Joe was about to propose to Chloe only for her to break up with him. It seemed like an out-of-the-blue decision on her part, which suggests there are some built-up fears after Otis’ death. At least, that’s what I hope it is.

There’s also the subplot of Kidd being selected for the prestigious leadership conference. That’s an ongoing storyline for at least the next few episodes. She’ll be at the conference during the episode, so expect some exceptionally awkward moments. Hopefully, she has confidence in herself because she deserves this.

I’ll admit that I’m looking forward to the subplot of the newsletter. I remember when Otis did his podcast and have missed that for a few seasons. Knowing that we won’t get that back, I love the idea of a newsletter to keep the firehouse up to date on everything. This will likely bring plenty of comedic relief during the episode.

"Kidd must prove herself at the National Firefighter Leadership Conference, while the rest of Firehouse 51 is called to two eerily similar car wrecks; Mouch tries to keep the firehouse informed by starting a newsletter; Cruz deals with a heartbreak."
