6. “Weekend at Mort’s” (Season 1)

The first episode to make the list is a throwback to season 1. While season 1 isn’t necessarily anyone’s favorite, it does feature some hidden gems. One of those is “Weekend At Mort’s” which is one of the earliest episodes not set in the restaurant. Some could argue that “Crawl Space” was first since Bob gets trapped in the wall at the apartment but a lot of scenes take place in the wall of the restaurant.

Either way, “Weekend at Mort’s” follows the Belcher family as the restaurant is getting fumigated and they stay with their next-door neighbor, Mort the mortician. For the kids, it’s a chance to explore the morgue and try to help Mort find love. While for Bob and Linda, it’s their second chance at a honeymoon they never had. Of course, things go awry for everyone especially Mort but it all works out in the end.

As far as episodes not set in the restaurant, this one is pretty unique. It doesn’t really fit the tone of the series now but it’s still a solid episode. It does seem like Teddy would be a better fit now but it was nice to see Mort getting a larger role in the episode. Plus it helped set the groundwork for future relationships/rivalries in the series. Overall, “Weekend at Mort’s” is no doubt a memorable episode that doesn’t take place in the restaurant.
