This Is Us will resume Season 4 on Jan. 14th. Check out the latest rumors and what we can expect from the show in 2020.

This Is Us has been on hiatus since Nov. 19th when the Season 4 fall finale aired, leaving us with more questions than answers. Luckily for us, our questions will eventually be answered, but we’ll have to be patient. This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman and executive producer Isaac Aptaker revealed what they could in media interviews to hold us over until our favorite show returns in January.

Be warned that the content in this post will discuss spoilers from Episode 9, so be sure to open up your DVR, Hulu, or the NBC app to get caught up if you haven’t already!

Rebecca’s health

Obviously the biggest talking point coming out of the Thanksgiving-themed episode, entitled “So Long, Marianne,” was in regards to the nine-month flash-forward which revealed Kevin has a fiancée with a baby on the way, and is no longer on speaking terms with Randall. Additionally, we learn Rebecca’s health has declined as she struggled to find her way to Kevin’s new home for the Big Three’s 40th birthday celebration.

So what do we know about Rebecca’s condition? Both Fogelman and Aptaker were adamant that Rebecca does not have an official diagnosis yet, though that information will be revealed by the end of Season 4. We will see Rebecca go through a trial of tests to find answers, which will bring “medical accuracy” to the storyline.

Randall vs. Kevin?

As mentioned before, we already know that Randall and Kevin won’t be on speaking terms by the time their 40th birthday rolls around. What exactly will lead to this division? Obviously there’s a thought that Randall being the bearer of Rebecca’s health secret could lead to the growing tension. The Pearson brothers have had plenty of contention throughout their lives with both of their parents. Unfortunately it seems this next chapter will drive the two further apart and break our hearts in the process.

Kevin’s love life

We don’t have much information yet regarding the future of Kevin’s love life. His prophecy of finding a wife to carry his child within the next year looks to become true. The biggest question now is which woman will Kevin end up with? He has quite the history with several characters ranging from Sophie to Zoey and now Cassidy.

Cassidy’s portrayer, Jennifer Morrison, has been a phenomenal addition to the cast this season, but the producers couldn’t confirm that we’ll see her again. Personally, I feel certain she is the next Mrs. Pearson, but only time will tell her fate.

Big episodes ahead for Randall?

It sounds like Randall Pearson is in for an interesting remainder of Season 4. Fogelman has gone on record to state that Randall has some big moments coming up with a “special episode towards the end of the season.” These key moments are said to reveal more of what goes on in Randall’s mind.

On a related note, expect to see Deja’s mother, Shaunna, involved more now that she’s getting her life on track. How will Shaunna’s reemergence affect Deja and her relationship with Randall and Beth? It looks like the remainder of Season 4 will tackle that question.

Will Kate & Toby make it?

The midseason finale brought a lot of uncertainty for one of our favorite couples. After everything they’ve been through, it looks like the stormy clouds won’t be parting any time soon. Kate is struggling being at home alone raising Jack while Toby is at work or the gym. On the same token, Toby feels like he is missing out on Jack’s milestones and is struggling to connect with Kate. As a result, Toby has been sharing his frustrations over messages with “LadyKryptonite5.” To make matters worse, Kate has read a few messages that are raising red flags for everyone.

Aptaker revealed to Entertainment Weekly that This Is Us will dive right back into their marriage issues upon Season 4’s return. Fogelman also told People that Lady Kryptonite’s identity will be revealed and it “may be surprising.” Have we already met this mystery woman? What if it’s someone like Madison?

As far as adult (baby) Jack goes, we can expect to see more of him during the remaining episodes in 2020. Also, if you’ve been wondering about Kate’s mysterious ex-boyfriend Marc, rumor has it that we will learn all of the details regarding their history in the near future.

Cryptic hint

Isaac Aptaker ended his interview with EW with a mysterious answer that still has us pondering what it could mean. When asked if he could provide a “super-cryptic hint” to leave fans with, Aptaker responded with the words, “A trilogy.” What in the world does this mean? What trilogy awaits?

This is just the start of the news and rumors that have surfaced regarding the rest of This Is Us Season 4. If you’re in need of more footage to hold you over, check out the teaser for the midseason premiere:
