2. “The Unnatural”

Surprisingly, a lot of episodes centering around sports focus on Gene. Despite Gene being the least athletic Belcher, Gene does try a lot of sports before eventually giving up and realizing that it’s not for him. This next episode is a testament to that as Season 3’s “The Unnatural” shows Gene trying his hand at baseball and the shenanigans that ensue when Linda tries to take matters into her own hands.

The episode follows Gene on his little league baseball team which goes well until he actually has to play. After a disastrous first game, Gene is ready to quit but Linda and Bob aren’t ready to give up on him. To try to help him, Linda signs him up for the “Deuce of Diamonds” baseball camp to get him better. When Bob finds out, he’s unsurprisingly unhappy and wants the money back. It takes a turn from there and we find out exactly how much Gene learned during the entirety of camp.

Once again, this episode doesn’t focus solely on sports as we get to see more about Gene’s character. As the final episode of Season 3, it was a nice way to wrap things up and gives a nod to baseball season starting. Even though baseball season isn’t going on right now, this episode demonstrates how just a little bit of confidence helped Gene along with the rest of the kids who were in the camp.
