Lesson #5: Never be ashamed of yourself

If there is one lesson to be learned from Tina Belcher, it’s never to be ashamed of yourself or what you like. While there are multiple examples of this lesson, an early episode jumps out to me. Season 2’s “Bad Tina” is the first example of this and one that somehow manages to still hold true now. Plus it gave us one of Tina’s biggest frenemies so it’s definitely worth a mention.

“Bad Tina” follows Tina as she befriends the new girl at school, Tammy. After becoming friends, she realizes that Tammy is a bad girl and ultimately, changes herself to be more like Tammy. It all backfires when Tammy tries to blackmail her. Everything works out in the end though as Tina’s able to get the best of Tammy. Plus the episode ends with Tammy humiliating herself and Tina coming out on top.

This episode, in particular, features Tina talking about her love for horses, Jimmy Jr’s butt and writing erotic friend fiction. While Tammy thinks it’s weird, Tina could care less as she doesn’t feel ashamed at all. Rather, she wants to be celebrated for the things she likes and that’s an important life lesson. Bob’s Burgers didn’t really find its footing until Season 3, but this Season 2 episode still features some sound advice. Even though it’s not from Tina directly, it’s implicated by her actions throughout the episode.
