Lesson #4: Family comes before anything

On the whole, Bob’s Burgers is a family sitcom but sometimes, the family aspect falls to the wayside. It doesn’t happen often, but there are a few select episodes. On the whole, the Belcher siblings are always there for each other, too. The most loyal of the bunch is easily Tina who will do basically anything Gene and Louise ask. That’s why “The Deepening” was an easy choice for this next lesson.

Serving as the 6th episode of Season 3, “The Deepening” is a parody of Jaws and features the kids letting a mechanical shark loose in the town. Of all the kids, Tina becomes incredibly attached to the shark. Maybe it’s because of the somewhat suggestive scenes in the movie, but she really forms a connection with the shark. Throughout the episode, we watch her stick up for the shark and basically befriend. In the end, Tina realizes that saving her dad and Teddy is a better choice than letting the shark eat up the restaurant.

This lesson doesn’t apply to everyone as not every family is as supportive as the Belchers. Either way, it was nice to see Tina realize how important her dad and Teddy are to her. It’s rare that Bob and Tina are paired off together so it was a nice change of pace. This episode isn’t completely centered around Tina, but the moments with her are memorable.
