Altered Carbon is back for its second season with Anthony Mackie playing the role of Takeshi Kovacs. Altered Carbon Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.

The new sleeve is ready for Takeshi Kovacs in the second season of Altered Carbon. In Season 1, Joel Kinnaman played Kovacs. After the events of the first season’s finale, it made sense to recast Kinnaman. Now, Anthony Mackie takes on the role of Kovacs in Altered Carbon Season 2, which is now streaming on Netflix.

Based on the 2002 novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon takes plays 300 years into the future where people’s memories and consciousness can be stored in what’s called a “stack.” The wealthy class can essentially live forever because they can afford to transfer their stacks to new bodies, also known as sleeves. In Altered Carbon Season 1, a highly-skilled mercenary named Kovacs has his stack pulled from prison after 250 years and inserted into a new sleeve. Kovacs is hired by Laurens Bancroft to solve his own murder in exchange for a new life.

In the second season, Mackie serves as the sleeve for Kovacs. Takeshi is taken back to his home planet of Harlan’s World and thrust right into its war. However, as he tries to solve a new crime, Takeshi also searches for his long-lost love, Quellcrist Falconer, played by Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Mackie is not the only one joining the cast. Season 2 will introduce Simone Missick as Trepp, Dina Shihabi as Dig 301, James Saito as Tanaseda Hideki, Lela Loren as Danica Harlan, and Torben Liebrecht as Colonel Ivan Carrera. Also, Chris Conner returns from the first season as Edgar Poe, an AI that ran the hotel in Bay City.
