7. The Accountant

Original Release Date: Oct. 14, 2016

Box Office Earnings: We’re finally getting to the big box office earners, and The Accountant is a great place to start. The movie was put together on a budget of $44 million and went on to earn $86.2 million domestically and $68.9 million internationally, for a total of $155.1 million.

Critical Acclaim: At Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 52% rotten score from critics, but, as we already mentioned, movies don’t make it on this list for their box office collection or what critics think about it. Audiences were kinder, giving the movie a 76% fresh score. The Jupiter Awards and Saturn Awards also looked the other way, nominating the movie for Best International Film, Best International Actor (Ben Affleck), and Best Thriller Film.

What’s it about: The Accountant follows Christian Wolff (Affleck), a certified account who has high-functioning autism, which helps him greatly at his job, but no so much when it comes to socializing.

Simply the Best: The movie throws a nice surprise that, though I wouldn’t call it a “shocking twist,” plays out perfectly. The Accountant features great fight sequences, which Jon Bernthal, who also stars in the movie, deserved more credit for, and is well-written.
