No list about book adaptations would be complete without a classic. As mentioned in the first slide, classics were the first to jump on the adaptation train. Since then, we’ve watched as classics have been adapted over and over again. Whether it be in a modern setting, a loosely based version or a faithful adaptation of the book, there is no right or wrong way to adapt a classic.

When it comes to classic book adaptations, Jane Austen is an easy pick. Despite being published decades ago, her stories still resonate with people. For 2020, Emma got the adaptation treatment with a feature film being released.

With theaters being closed, it was eventually made available to watch at home so if you’re interested, you don’t even have to leave the house. With the last adaptation being released in 1996, it’s no surprise they decided to give on this one. From the trailer, it seems like the 2020 version is funny while still focusing on the original story.

As for reading the book, this might be one case where the movie outshines the book. With the original work being published in 1815, it’s not for everyone. Either way, it could be a nice change of pace if you’re not used to reading classics. If you want to listen to this on audio, the entire book is avaible for free on Spotify or you can buy the audiobook on Audible which features a full cast including Emma Thompson.
