At one point during the Chicago Fire Season 8 finale, I feared we wouldn’t get a resolution to an injured member’s story. Could [Spoiler] return to work?

Caution: There are spoilers for the Chicago Fire Season 8 finale in this post. If you haven’t watched it yet, I recommend catching it on Hulu before reading on.

We had the unexpected and unplanned Chicago Fire Season 8 finale. That always meant that there could be some major unanswered questions. One that I feared involved the member of Squad 3 who was injured in the first call of the night.

More from NBC

When called out to a worksite, Squad 3 was immediately needed. The smell of chlorine gas meant they had to suit up. What they didn’t expect to find was another component that created an explosion. Severide realized the danger just a tiny bit too late and Capp was injured in the explosion.

The chlorine gas got into his eyes, and it looked like it could have been permanent damage. Fans quickly took to Twitter to share their fears, hoping that we’d get a resolution to the story by the end of it.

Would this be one of the storylines left open for Chicago Fire Season 9? Fortunately, not. We got a resolution by the end.

So, is Capp forced out of the fire department due to a medical injury? Do you really think the show would do that to us? Okay, after Otis’s death at the end of the premiere for the season, maybe you did think it was possible. Fortunately, that’s not the case.

Capp learned at the end of the episode that his eyes were healing well. Initially telling Severide and Casey that he was done for, they quickly noticed that he was joking. He was back to his humorous self and we know that Capp can return to work. He just has to do a few more shifts on desk duty to make sure his eyes get the time they need to fully heal.

It’s great news going into this unexpected hiatus. Now we just need to know when we’ll get new episodes of Chicago Fire. That’s not something anyone can answer just yet.
