Fox’s Prodigal Son wrapped its first season on April 27. And, so far, there hasn’t been even a hint at a renewal.

Before you read on, please note that this post contains spoilers for the season finale of Prodigal Son.

Prodigal Son is a quirky, dark series about the adult son, Malcolm Bright, and daughter, Ainsley Whitly, of a serial killer as well as his ex-wife. While Malcolm suffers from PTSD, Ainsley seems to be “normal.” Their mother, Jessica Whitly, is an alcoholic who also happens to be one of the richest women in the city. Add in Malcolm’s career as a police profiler who spends most of his time hunting down killers, and the resulting mix is addictive.

Season one ended with several cliffhangers, and, of course, viewers want to know what will happen. But there are so many other questions that remain unanswered that we need another season.

Here are some questions we have that Prodigal Son Season 2 needs to answer:

Will Malcolm ever reach a point where his nightmares no longer consume him?

The entire first season, Malcolm has been tortured with realistic nightmares, many of which are fragmented memories. Now that some of the mystery has been resolved, it would be interesting to see him start to move toward a normal life, if that’s possible. Not that he’ll ever truly forget about his past, but we’d like to see his world become a bit more settled.

Will Jessica ever be able to move beyond the bottle?

Undoubtedly, Jessica relies upon alcohol to help her function. Having been married to a serial killer, she, of all people, needs a way to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Her quips and sarcasm are beyond perfection, and it will be interesting to see if those remain if she does decide to walk away from the bottle.

Will Jessica and Gil become romantically involved?

Jessica and Gil (Lou Diamond Phillips) grew closer as the first season progressed, and though we don’t know if he’ll survive being stabbed, the series creators say they’d be “real dummies” not to bring him back. We’re betting that Jessica and Gil will take a step in that direction, and it works, since Gil has been a positive influence in Malcolm’s life since he arrested Malcolm’s father, Dr. Martin Whitly.

Now that Ainsley has killed, will she develop a thirst for it like her father?

Obviously, Dr. Whitly couldn’t get enough of killing. As the season ended, Ainsley made her first kill, and one has to wonder if she’ll follow in her father’s footsteps. He seemed particularly proud with his exclamation of “my girl!”

Life as she knows it will be different from this point forward, but how different? Will she get away with killing Endicott, or will she be sent to prison like her father?

This series has created so many complex characters, and their histories have barely been touched. With much more exploring to do, Prodigal Son needs to be renewed. The Whitly family and those who associate with them have so much more in store for viewers!
