4. Child’s Play

Child’s Play is the horror franchise that gave birth to one of the most terrifying haunted dolls in cinema. Even if you’ve never seen one of the films, you are likely familiar with the creepy doll named Chucky.

Technically, he’s not “haunted,” not in the same way as The Conjuring‘s Annabelle. Chucky is possessed by the soul of a dying murderer named Charles Lee Ray. In his final moments, he uses black magic to transfer his soul into a doll, and then that doll ends up becoming a gift for a young boy named Andy.

It doesn’t take long for Andy to realize that something is very wrong with Chucky, especially after he kills the babysitter. It has been more than 30 years since the first Child’s Play filmed debuted, and there are still plans for more, with a proposed television show meant to air in the near future. See how it all began with the original 1988 film!

3. Glass Castle

Brie Larson stars in this film based on the best-selling memoir of the same name written by Jeanette Walls. The story revolves around four siblings who have to find a way to take care of themselves while living with free-spirited parents who relinquish responsibility for their kids.

In many ways, their uber-relaxed parenting style allows their children to do what they want, but it also inhibits them in many ways. Their father is an alcoholic who could become cruel and dishonest when drinking, but when he was sober, he was full of charisma and brimming with creativity. Their mother, on the other hand, never liked the idea of being domesticated.
