Grade C: “The Unnatural” and “Yes Without My Zeke”

Moving onto better things, it’s time to talk about the episodes that are just okay. They’re solid episodes but there’s nothing special about them, or the episodes shouldn’t have served as season finales. The two episodes are “The Unnatural” and “Yes Without My Zeke.” Both episodes are good but not good enough to end a season on so let’s talk about what happened and why they didn’t quite live up.

“The Unnatural” served as the Season 3 finale and followed Gene as he attended the “Deuce of Diamonds” baseball camp which was clearly a scheme. Eventually, Gene is able to prove he’s learned something by getting a hit during an impromptu baseball game featuring the family and the kid’s friends. Meanwhile, Tina gets addicted to drinking expresso.

It’s a solid Gene episode but it lacks the pizzazz of other Season 3 episodes. Season 3 was a great season for Bob’s Burgers but reworking things could have ensured a more well-rounded finale. “The Unnatural” is still a good Gene episode, though.

Next is the finale of last season, “Yes Without My Zeke.” The episode features the kids pairing up with Jimmy Jr, Rudy, Arnold and Zeke to help Zeke get out of trouble. As for Bob and Linda, they agree to let Randy Watkins rent out the restaurant to shoot his movie.

This is another case where things could have been reworked and the finale would have been better. “Yes Without My Zeke” is a decent episode but it doesn’t focus on the family or even the kids. It’s all about Zeke and isn’t the best place to end a season.
