5 new shows to watch while Your favorite is on break

There is nothing more exhilarating, yet discouraging than finishing a television series. It could be a bittersweet feeling. During this pandemic, binge-watching has been my healing mechanism for my mental health. With states being shut down, no sports, and no concerts, most of us have been stuck at home for quite a while.

A person can only listen to their record player and read books for so long. Without binge-watching new shows, I don’t think I could have survived. Seems a bit dramatic doesn’t it? When you first finish a new show, you feel denial, then slight anger, and finally acceptance. Once you finish that new guilty pleasure TV show — then what?  Well, you find new shows to watch of course.

Post-series depression is a real thing. Just ask the urban dictionary. In fact,  also known as “PSD,” it means It is the sadness felt after reading or watching a really long series or story. Essentially, it’s that eerie feeling when you know the journey is over, yet you don’t want it to be.

Whether that new show you just finished is done for good, or just on a break, it’s time for the next journey. We already told you which new Netflix movies and shows to watch.

Here are five new shows from a variety of different streaming services to watch while your show is on a break

Duncanville (Hulu and FOX)

A show that is centered around a 15-year old boy Duncan (Amy Poehler), that has high hopes and big dreams. As most teenagers do, Duncan sees adulthood in his near future, yet he envisions a life filled with freedom, luxury, and girls. But, his mother Annie (also Amy Poehler) and father Jack (Ty Burrell) remind him that his dream world he lives in — isn’t a reality. Rashida Jones (Parks and Rec) voices Mia who is Duncan’s off-and-on crush.

Also, hip-hop artist Wiz Khalifa makes his animated sitcom debut as the guidance counselor/teacher/gym coach. A hilarious new animated sitcom that has a bright future.

Dave (Hulu and FXX)

Dave focuses on a man in his late 20’s that has some aspirations to become the greatest rapper of all-time. The character Dave Burd (played by rapper/comedian Lil’ Dicky) must now convince all of his friends he is destined to be the greatest, because let’s face it — he needs their help.  Ally (Taylor Misiak) is an elementary school teacher and is also Dave’s girlfriend.

Along with her, Dave will need the on-stage persona from his friend GaTa in order to chase his dreams. An absolutely amusing comedy to kick back and enjoy.

F is For Family (Netflix)

Who doesn’t love Bill Burr? This hilarious comedy is set in the 1970’s and follows the Murphy’s family. Frank (Bill Burr) is a short-tempered veteran that works at an airport and lives with his wife Sue (Laura Dern) and three kids Kevin (Justin Long), Bill (Haley Reinhart), and Maureen (Debi Derryberry). What adds to this show’s appeal, is the nostalgic feel as it highlights the lifestyle of the 70’s quite accurately.

A fourth season has just been added as of last night. Apparently, Frank deals with an unwelcome visit from his antagonizing father. Which means things could get a little dicey for everyone. Not to mention, Sue is pregnant. Fun times.

Upload (Amazon Prime)

Imagine being able to choose your own afterlife. It would be amazing right? In 2033, people are able to upload themselves to whatever digital afterlife of their choice. This science-fiction comedy television series follows the life of Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell), who is a 27-year old computer engineer graduate who passes away and is then uploaded to high-maintenance Lake View.

Unfortunately, Brown finds himself under the “spell” of his possessive, still-living girlfriend Ingrid (Allegra Edwards). Throughout this afterlife journey, he meets and bonds with his handler Nora (Andy Allo). As to everything in life, Brown separates the pros and cons in his new afterlife.

Sweet Magnolias (Netflix)

We all need friends to help lift our spirits during difficult times and reassurance that everything’s going to be alright. That’s exactly what Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) has with her friends Helen Decatur (Heather Headley) and Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott). This show basically captures the friendship between three women from South Carolina that have been friends since childhood.

They help each other through the hardships of life including romance, work-life, and even family issues. Townsend is recently divorced and is dealing with a lot. Of course, this romance drama television series is based on the Sweet Magnolias books written by Sherryl Woods. This is a perfect show for someone dealing with some personal demons and needs a story to lift them up during difficult times.
