9. Saving Private Ryan
Original Release Date: July 24, 1998
Box Office Earnings: Domestically, the movie gathered $216.5 million, while it added $265.3 million overseas. All this for a grand total of $481.8 million. For a film from 1998, this is remarkable.
Critical Acclaim: What Saving Private Ryan received most of the praise for was the brilliant directing from Steven Spielberg. The score, editing, and performances also received high honors, as well. Needless to say, this is one of the most popular Tom Hanks movies and just films in general.
Nominations received by the film include Best Picture, Best Actor (Tom Hanks), and Best Original Screenplay — and this is just from the Academy Awards! At Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 93% from critics and 95% from audiences.

What the movie is about: Set during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II, Saving Private Ryan follows U.S. Army Rangers Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) and his crew as they search for Private First Class James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon).
Simply the best: Okay, hear me out. This movie ranking was not easy to put together! I wanted to rank Saving Private Ryan higher, but there are just so many movies to love! One of them had to be placed at the bottom of the rest. So as much as I love Tom Hanks and the rest of the talent in the movie, I’m ranking it at No. 9.
This movie is also one of Matt Damon‘s best, in our opinion. Saving Private Ryan also stars Edward Burns, Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper, and others.
