5 popular TV series that should never be rebooted
The West Wing
There has never been a political drama quite like The West Wing since it ended in 2006 after seven seasons. With Martin Sheen, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, and Richard Schiff to name a few, this series had a cast that played off one another effortlessly. The Aaron Sorkin drama took viewers deep inside the White House run by a Democratic presidency, but the episodes were so engrossing and realistic that viewers from all parties watched it.
This wasn’t a series about which side was right and which side was wrong as much as it was about the intricacies of politics, the tough decisions that had to be made, and the losses that swept the rug out from under a team that cared about one another.
The end of the series highlighted the end of President Bartlett’s time in office and segued perfectly to the election of President Santos (Jimmy Smitts). It was a poignant and impactful ending that left viewers both sad and satisfied. And while it would be doubtful that a reboot of The West Wing would make fans happy, a spin-off could possibly work, as long as the right people were at the helm.
Networks and streaming channels have many years of television to mine if they’re looking for reboots or remakes, but these five TV series reboots should be off-limits. With the dedicated fan bases they had, it would be difficult to capture the essence of what these series were, and to attempt to do so could end up being a disaster.
