10. Bride Wars

Original release date: Bride Wars hit theaters on Jan. 9, 2009.

Box office earnings: Despite negative reception from critics, the film was a financial hit, bringing in over $115 million worldwide against a budget of $30 million.

Critical acclaim: For some odd reason, Bride Wars was derided by critics and holds a meager 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a figure far too harsh for the thoroughly enjoyable romantic comedy. Forget the Oscars, the film was nominated for Best Fight at the MTV Movie Awards, an honor far more prestigious than the Academy Awards some might say.

About the role: Hudson co-headlines Bride Wars alongside Anne Hathaway as best friends Liv and Emma. Dreaming of their wedding day since they were kids, Liv and Emma find themselves engaged and planning their big days at the same time.

However, competition strikes when their weddings manage to fall on the same day at the Plaza Hotel. Liv, a headstrong attorney, plays dirty when the dueling best friends sabotage each other’s wedding plans.

Why it’s the best: Some will argue Kate Hudson has turned in stronger performances in better movies, but Bride Wars doesn’t get nearly as much love as it should. Say what you will about the movie, but Hudson’s comedic performance rivals some of the all-time greats.

Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you more than likely know of the “My hair is blue! It’s blue!” scene that’s truly one of the most underrated moments in rom-com history and Hudson’s career. In Bride Wars, both stars had the chance to have fun and that fun sure shows onscreen.
