Star Trek: Every title sequence ranked

#8 Picard (2019)
It’s the return of Patrick Stewart to Star Trek we never thought would happen. It’s easily one of Stewart’s best Trek performances ever. It was an infinitely more satisfying goodbye for the beloved android Data than 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.
Picard, however, has the most boring music of any Star Trek title sequence. It’s a slow, pensive piece featuring flute and violin. Trek fans know that Data played the former on The Next Generation, and Picard learned to play an alien flute when he lived out an entire lifetime in his head in one of the shows finest episodes, “The Inner Light”.
One could easily comb through the visuals in this title sequence and find additional meanings in them that are followed up on in the show, but most of us probably just fast forward through it.
The imagery is stellar, the animation was produced by Prologue. (the same group behind the animation of Discovery’s opening sequence.) Picard‘s opening gives us crystal formations, Borg cubes, planets, and eyeballs. It’s all very well rendered and animated, no one is denying that here.
Try to hum the music though…
You couldn’t remember and looked it up on YouTube, didn’t you? If not, maybe THIS will jog your memory.
The underwhelming music drags Picard‘s opening titles to the bottom of the list. Here’s hoping someone gives the tune a little more ‘oomph’ for the next season. Picard‘s second season is confirmed to be happening, but due to the COVID pandemic, when it will begin production is still up in the air.
