Fans of the original Terminator series will remember Sarah Connor’s son, John Connor, who was played by child actor Edward Furlong. Appearing in the sequel film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Furlong got his big break from the sci-fi action franchise starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. So what’s he up to now?

Edward Furlong career

Furlong went on to land a part in 1992’s Pet Sematary II, a sequel to the horror film based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, and then in 1992’s American Heart. The actor had a handful of roles to follow in the 1990s and 2000s, including the acclaimed American History X, but by the early 2000s, the projects he was involved in weren’t the greatest.

As reported by Entertainment.ie, most of them were straight-to-DVD movies.

Edward Furlong arrests

So what happened? Well, unfortunately, Furlong got involved in alcoholism and drug addiction. In 2004, he was arrested for public intoxication after he released lobsters out of a store’s tank. He opened up to People in 2006, explaining, “I realized I was kind of turning into an E! True Hollywood Story.”

He added, “I don’t even think about [partying] anymore. It seems lonely now: running and clubbing and doing coke. I have nightmares about doing hard drugs. I’ll wake up and I’m like, ‘Did I relapse?'”

However, fast forward to 2012 and Furlong was in trouble with the law yet again. Between 2012 and 2013 (per The Hollywood Reporter), he was arrested multiple times on suspicion of domestic abuse. By May 2013, he was sentenced to a five-year probation and had to attend domestic violence counseling, as well as rehab for drug abuse.

Edward Furlong today

Furlong continued to land gigs throughout the 2010s, and in 2019, he even reprised his role as John Connor for Terminator: Dark Fate. Nowadays, it appears the actor is out of trouble with the law, and will appear in an upcoming action film called Karma. In addition, he attends many film festivals for Q&As and autographs.

He’s also active on social media, posting pretty regularly on his Instagram page, which you can see here.

We’re hopeful Furlong is on the path to recovery and lives a peaceful life going forward.
