10. Moneyball
Moneyball, a film released in 2011 and adapted from Michael Lewis’ 2003 book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game. It is a film based on a true story (idealized version) of how the Oakland Athletics (A’s) reinvented the game of baseball team management. Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt is the general manager of the Oakland Athletics).
One day, he comes to a sudden realization that baseball’s traditional conventions are all wrong. So, Beane sets out to challenge the old-school traditions of baseball.
Beane faces a tight budget and he has the task of reinventing his baseball team by outsmarting the richer baseball teams. In order to do so, Beane joins forces with Yale graduate Peter Brand and they work together to recruit the best possible team they can.
With the help of Brand, Beane recruits players at a bargain price who were told they had flaws in their game by the scouts, but that they had the potential to win a match of baseball. Moneyball is a great movie, it is a remarkable underdog story that shows us that against all odds a small team can defeat the big team and you do not need money to do so.
