2020 has been quite an interesting year for television, to say the least. From abbreviated seasons caused by unexpected production shutdowns to delayed premiere dates for shows across all of television, it’s been a year unlike any before it.

Although the year has been far from usual, that hasn’t stopped networks from having to make the difficult decisions they’re tasked with making every year: determining the fates of the series that make up their schedules.

With a month still to go, 2020 has already been a brutal season for TV fans with cancellations for several beloved and iconic shows announced. From The Walking Dead and Lucifer to Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Black Lightning, many fan favorites have received their walking orders in 2020 and there’s no telling what additional shows might join the list before we ring in the new year.

Like with any given year, the silver lining for several of these shows comes in the form of knowing shows will at least get the chance to plan their ending. As a result, the writers will be able to bring fans well-earned closure. However, unfortunately, this is a privilege rewarded to far few many shows with most brought to an end without ever getting the chance to bid fans farewell.

2020 has also brought with it several renewal reversals with networks choosing to retract renewals due to costly production delays. This includes shows such as GLOW, Stumptown, On Becoming a God in Central Florida, and Drunk History to name just a few.

From a network perspective, Netflix currently stands as the network to cancel the most shows in 2020 with 28 series having either been canceled or renewed for a final season. That’s three times the amount of No. 2 on the list of cancel happy networks, an honor which goes to ABC — who has canceled nine series thus far this year.

Meanwhile, networks such as A&E, Peacock, and Starz come in at the bottom of the list with only a few stray cancellations — though to fans of these unfortunate few, knowing this likely doesn’t soften the blow at all.
