These next two are early Bob’s Burgers episodes that give us some background.

Moving ahead to the next two episodes, these episodes occurred early in the series so it gives us a little bit more background into Linda and Gene’s relationship. Oddly enough, these two episodes both focus on sports even though Gene and Linda aren’t athletic. Either way, these episodes do a fine job of showcasing Gene and Linda’s relationship on Bob’s Burgers.

The first episode has to be “The Unnatural” which is the season finale of Season 3. Linda enrolls Gene in a baseball camp without realizing it’s a sham. Once Bob finds out, he’s furious and challenges the “coach” to prove Gene is better by having him hit the ball. Eventually, Bob eats his words and Gene gets a hit, resulting in the money not being wasting. Overall, it’s a surprisingly fun episode and one of the best Gene episodes the show has ever produced.

As for how this episode showcases Gene and Linda’s relationship, it proves how much Linda is willing to sacrifice for Gene. Even though it seemed like a scam to everyone else, she was still willing to try and get him help for the Deuce. Thankfully, it worked out in Linda’s favor and proved that her belief in Gene wasn’t for nothing. With a little bit of practice and encouragement from Linda, Gene was successful.

The next episode making the cut is “Gene It On” which is a season four episode. In the episode, Tina wants to become a cheerleader but is injured. Instead, the rest of the cheerleaders are impressed by Gene and want him on the team. Linda is ecstatic as she always wanted to be a cheerleader since her snobby best friend made her feel crappy. Linda and Gene go back and forth the entire episode until the end in which Linda comes up with a cheer to try and save the day.

This is one of the few episodes where we see the cracks in Gene and Linda’s relationship. Even though it gets resolved quickly, it’s not something we see often. The two might have different viewpoints on cheerleading, but it’s clear they both have strong opinions. No doubt Gene gets his strong opinions from Linda. They might disagree in this episode, but their relationship is strong enough to withstand a little bit of rivalry.
