Kerri McLean as Ororo Munroe/Storm

Controlling the weather is no small feat, being reserved mainly for Mother Nature. Storm seems to symbolize some of that power. She’s got an air of regality about her, speaking with authority and being an imposing figure on and off the battlefield.

On the other hand, she can also be extremely warm, serving as a maternal figure for some of the younger X-Men. Finally, because she comes from a village in Africa, she also has a slight exotic intrigue.

McLean deftly handled all of this in the final season/series of Poldark, playing a former Honduran slave trying to free her wrongfully convicted husband in England. Even in the face of endless adversity (in a pretty melodramatic show), she never portrays the character as a victim. She instead maintains a steady dignity. She holds her head high, with only her eyes and voice subtly betraying the charged emotion underneath.

This doesn’t come at the cost of her caring side, though. McLean emanates such a heartwarming tenderness at times that it’s hard not to root for her. You truly feel the love and concern she has for her husband.

Finally, McLean herself has a slight otherworldly quality to her screen presence. No, it’s not just the accent that she puts on for the show, but that ability to change dialect is a perk. Both of these aspects could be utilized to pay homage to Storm’s roots. It’s among the many reasons for this pick as the resident weather witch of the X-Men.
