These shows made our list for the Best of TV 2020, saving what would otherwise be a very dark year.

Trying to formulate any kind of Best of 2020 list is difficult after such a dark year. Further complicating matters, that usual kick-off to the fall broadcast season was delayed when a lot of productions were shut down due to COVID-19 health concerns. And yet, here we are with the best of TV 2020.

Sometimes, when real life gets to be too much, our favorite shows are all we have to help us through it. Luckily, even in a year when there were fewer offerings than normal, that chance to escape still came through.

Certainly, nothing on this Best of TV 2020 or any other list will ever erase the staggering losses. It won’t magically make life go back to normal, whatever that even means anymore, either.

Our Best of TV 2020 list is all about bringing you joy

With all of that being said, we hope at least one of these offerings might bring you a little bit of a distraction to get you through just one more hour. If you can’t spend time with your family and friends, at least you can spend some virtual time with these delightful sources of entertainment.

We’re bringing you the best new show, a reboot that had absolutely zero right to be watchable but turned out to be great, a little bit of education, a steamy new season for one of our (finally canon) favorite ‘ships, and a real-life personality we really don’t deserve. While the list isn’t completely free of drama or a little bit of emotional pain, we found even the saddest scenes to watch still managed to bring us some comfort.

Without further ado, let’s get this Best of 2020 party started.
