Everything we know about The Crown Season 5 so far

The Crown Season 5 is definitely happening. However, it’s going to be a bit of a wait for the season to air on Netflix. It’s time to take a look at everything we know about the season so far.

There has been some back and forth about whether this would be the last season or not. Originally, the series was intended to be six seasons, with a cast change every two seasons. Then creator Peter Morgan decided to reduce the last part to just one season, making the fifth season the end.

In 2020, that plan changed again. Realizing there was enough content to fill 10 episodes, Morgan and Netflix agreed to a sixth season. So, The Crown Season 5 isn’t going to be the end after all. But it doesn’t change when the season will come to Netflix.

The Crown Season 5 release date

There is going to be a bit of a wait for the fifth season. Filming won’t start until summer 2021, which means the episodes probably won’t arrive until the end of 2022.

This follows the pattern of the break between the second and third season. The change of cast leads to a slightly longer break between filming. However, we shouldn’t expect the long break for Season 6, unless the pandemic causes a problem.

Chances are we’ll get The Crown Season 5 sometime in November or December 2022. We’ll be sure to update as soon as there is an official release date.

The Crown Season 5 cast

This is a season that sees the characters change again. Say goodbye to Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, and Helena Bonham Carter. Say hello to:

Dominic West is currently rumored to be in talks to play Prince Charles. The rumors worked out right when it came to Staunton playing the queen, so will it be the same for West playing Charles?

The Crown Season 5 trailer

There isn’t a trailer, of course. Filming hasn’t even started at the time of writing this. We’ll bring the trailer as soon as there is one.

Don’t expect a trailer until closer to the release date. We’re looking at the end of 2022 for a trailer.

The Crown Season 5 synopsis

There isn’t a synopsis either. The show will pick up off the back of The Crown Season 4, which saw Diana, Princess of Wales trapped in a loveless marriage. She has to put on a happy face for the people, but many are seeing through it.

The fifth season will likely follow Charles and Diana’s divorce and Diana subsequent untimely death. There will be a few other marital issues for Queen Elizabeth’s children, and there will likely be the inclusion of Prime Minister Tony Blair taking over.
